Quotes that sell: variants, optional items, an easy yes
Of three quotes, the cheapest rarely wins — the clearest does. How variants, optional items and an easy acceptance win you more jobs without cutting your price.

A quote is not a price tag but your most important sales document: it talks to the customer when you're not there. The good news: most quotes in the trades are interchangeable — structure yours just a little better and you stand out immediately. That takes no marketing course, just four moves.
01What makes a quote a sales document?
Clarity: the customer collects three quotes and, with two of them, understands only the total. The third one can win — traceable line items, short plain-language descriptions, no cryptic codes from the wholesale list. Someone who understands what they're getting no longer compares just the price: they compare trust.
02What are contingency and alternative items for?
They create room instead of change-order disputes: put foreseeable extras into the quote as clearly marked contingency items — surcharge visible, decision with the customer. That reads as transparent and sells on the side: what's there in black and white gets ordered more often than what you only mention verbally.
03How do you sell with quote variants?
With two to three noticeably different packages: standard, better finish, premium. Most customers choose the middle — and feel like deciders instead of supplicants. Important: the variants must genuinely differ in material, comfort or durability — otherwise they look like price games.
04How do you make acceptance easy for the customer?
By writing it out explicitly: a short e-mail confirmation is enough — plus the quote's validity and a direct contact person. Many quotes fail at exactly this last hurdle because the customer doesn't know how to say yes. And document the go-ahead in writing before ordering material: that protects both sides.
05Why is a service catalogue worth it?
Because good quote texts are written once and then reused: maintain your catalogue with clean descriptions and current prices. In DasHandwerk.xhub you pick items from it and turn the accepted quote into the invoice with one click. Our free quote templates in the templates area give a head start per trade.
The short version
Write quotes the customer understands without calling back, give real choices with optional items and two or three variants — and make saying yes as easy as possible. You win jobs through clarity, not through discounts.
