How to calculate the workshop estimate
The cost estimate is standard in the workshop — as a professional approximation it may be exceeded with justification, but you must announce significant overruns before continuing. Include foreseeable follow-up work (e.g. corroded brake lines during a brake job) as contingency items: that turns the approval into a phone call instead of a conflict.
