What belongs in a trade quote
A good quote describes the work concretely enough that the customer can compare and you are covered during execution: individual items with quantity and unit, materials separated from labour, a validity period and net/gross totals. The change-order sentence (“additional work will be quoted in writing”) spares you the most common dispute in the trades.
Quote or cost estimate?
A quote is binding — what it states applies at the stated price within the validity period. A cost estimate is a professional approximation and may be exceeded with justification (with a duty to notify at significant overrun). Choose deliberately: a fixed price builds trust, the estimate protects you when scope is unclear. For trade-specific sample items, see the free quote tool.

Frequent questions about the quote template
How long am I bound by my quote?
As long as you write into it — without a statement, a “reasonable period” applies, which invites disputes. 2–4 weeks are common. The template contains the validity sentence as a placeholder.
Quote net or gross?
Private customers must be given final prices including VAT; in B2B, net prices with VAT shown are standard. The template shows both — subtotal, VAT and total.
How do I avoid disputes about extras?
Describe the work precisely, name contingency items, and include the change-order sentence: additional work is quoted in writing before execution. Every extension then remains a conscious customer decision.
